Church, I cannot stress this enough: we must root ourselves in the living and abiding Word. (1 Pet. 1:23) Every member of our church needs to possess a working knowledge of the Bible. You need not be a Bible scholar, but as our culture grows increasingly antithetical to our faith the Word will be an anchor in the stormy days ahead. It won’t be enough to attend church for an hour a week. You must cultivate the habit of Scriptural intake.
There are plenty of resources available to you: multiple Bible translations, apps that will read to you on your commute to the office, and good old carbon-based Bibles with notes in the margins and the pages dog-eared. Here’s one more resource: the 2022-2023 Bible Reading Challenge. The goal of the challenge is always the same: cultivate the habit of daily Bible intake. If you get bogged down or miss a few days, get back up. Don’t try to catch up. Just pick up on the current day of the plan. There are hundreds of other resources out there, and the Bible Reading Challenge isn’t magical. But, the Word of God is sharper than any two-edged sword. It’s like a hammer, breaking rock. It’s sweet rain falling on parched earth.
To the Word!
